Capping the Summer Movie Season 2011
Warner Bros. and Director Steven Soderbergh attempt to be the swan song for this year’s summer movie season with the upcoming release of ‘Contagion’ this Friday. Soderbergh, known for his work on the ‘Ocean’s-’ trilogy, has assembled a solid cast in Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Lawrence Fishburne, and Kate Winslet to competently drive this ‘Outbreak’-esque story forward.
If there’s one thing that’s made abundantly clear in this movie outside of ‘washing your hands’, Soderbergh is taking the viral outbreak to a grand scale, with production values on par with ‘I Am Legend’. Let’s just hope that Soderbergh is able to maintain structure and story organization once the virus is loose. Often times, in these situations, directors lose their minds and the story goes to shit (e.g., M. Night Shyamalan in ‘The Happening’).
