The MCU: Joss Whedon Attends Guardians Volume 2 Premiere
Joss Whedon is still very close to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as he helped close out Phase I successfully with the first Avengers film, supervised the trajectory of Phase II, and finished with an underrated Age of Ultron sequel. Whedon is also credited as an Executive Producer with Agents of SHIELD with both his brother Jed and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen serving as show runners. With all of this contribution, Joss has announced that he’s taking on Batgirl for the rival DC Extended Universe (DCEU) in a solo project. Early reports from THR suggests that he will be working on her origins story by answering the question – what was the traumatic experience that made her wear the mask?
Given Whedon’s work with Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and his unparalleled writing, the DCEU should feel very fortunate to have him. This is also a win for fans of comic books. Period. Kevin Feige has also shown support of Joss’ recent move to the other side, which is a classy move. “He called a couple months ago, which he didn’t have to do and was super cool of him and super nice of him,” said Feige. “And we couldn’t be more supportive. We want to see a Joss Whedon Batgirl film be awesome.”
Do you feel betrayed as a MCU fan? Do you feel like you got a win DCEU fans? Can fans of Marvel and DC take a page out of the Kevin Feige approach to all the studios and be classy?
