NYCC 2015: Warner Bros DC Television Takeover Highlights
Warner Bros. Television has five comic book related shows on the air. Seriously. I don’t think anyone could have seen that coming. Warner Bros. closed out NYCC with their Television Takeover panel that featured sizzle reels from the upcoming seasons of Gotham, Arrow, and the Flash. The panel also featured other WB shows, Persons of Interest and Blindspot. However, the primary focus was on the comic book related products. DC properties, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow were the main focus of the panel.
As mentioned before, the big news out of Supergirl is that Toyman will be one of the main antagonists of the show. The main cast of Legends of Tomorrow also took stage to please the fans, yet nothing big was announced. Nonetheless, both shows have garnered a lot of interest. All we can do now is watch and see how things work out.
Another big announcement from the NYCC ’15 panel and quite possibly be the most eyebrow raising, was the casting of Paul Reubens as the Penguin’s father. Yes, you read that correctly. The actor and comedian best known as Pee-Wee Herman will portray Penguins father on the hit FOX show, Gotham. I guess the over acting aspect of Gotham will never stop.
Side note: how cool was it to see Matt Ryan as Constantine in the Arrow sizzle reel? Constantine may never get his own show again, but it’s comforting to know that he’s in continuity with the CW version of the DC universe.
