Nintendo Announces New Nintendo 2DS XL
Who says the DS family of handhelds is going to die with the release of the Nintendo Switch? Today’s announcement flew under-the-radar of the Call of Duty: WWII trailer and just appeared on Nintendo’s website. Just like the regular Nintendo 2DS handheld, this newer version can do everything the New Nintendo 3DS XL can do minus the 3D. This includes the extra processing power over the regular 2DS, the thumb “C” stick, and the amiibo compatibility. If you would’ve asked me 6 months ago what my next handheld was going to be, it would be this one as it’s perfect for both of my kids. However now that the Switch is out in the world, I’m trying to go all-in with that console. Nintendo is making it hard though, especially with this trailer below to explain how the New 2DS XL is going to work.
Yes, all of the beautiful people casually walking around this trailer can take their cups of coffee and pour it on themselves. To be honest, I’m not sure how to feel with the NES Classic Edition being phased out, Nintendo Switch availability being limited, and now the release of this other piece of hardware that needs to be manufactured. I’m not sure this is the right approach Nintendo if you’re trying to woo your handheld market to Switch (no pun intended). For you parents who are not sure about the Switch and have young kids, this may be for you.
The New Nintendo 2DS XL will release on July 28th at a retail price of $149.99 in the U.S.
